Bicycles for Humanity is a global grassroots movement that provides the gift of mobility delivered by a bicycle to many in developing countries. In addition to delivering bicycles, many B4H groups work with the local people to develop the skills to manage the bike programs and to ensure that the community realizes maximum value from the gifts of mobility that our chapters provide. Today, many of our chapters in the developing world, Karamoja, Uganda, South Africa, Namibia are mentoring and teaching other communities the skills to successfully manage bicycle initiatives, just as many chapters teach new chapters the program here. We are a pure global grassroots movement and we will always be.
A bicycle solves the problem of mobility and helps empowers people to change their life. The mobility a bicycle provides allows people to travel greater distances in a shorter length of time and transport much more weight. Mothers can carry containers of water back to their village in a fraction of the time walking required. Students get to school faster saving precious daylight for studies. Parents transport more items to market to sell. Healthcare workers are 3 to 4 times more productive.
B4H Chapters raise funds, collect bicycles and ship them to community based organizations in developing countries. Bicycles are delivered in shipping containers that remain in the country and become community bicycle workshops called Bicycle Empowerment Centres. 100% of all donations are used to get bikes into the hands of those who need them. Today we are the largest globally at providing the gift of mobility a bicycle can deliver and we still have not spent a single cent on any overhead or staffing, we are a pure volunteer movement with an incredible skill set here and in the developing world on how to manage bike projects successfully.
